Position Description:
The Senior Mechanical Designer is responsible for leading design efforts, utilizing conceptual skills, industry experience and imagination to bring innovation and creative excellence to the organization's creative and design deliverables.
The Senior Mechanical Designer will utilize excellent problem solving skills to provide mechanical system solutions that will improve functionality, weight and other key criterion.
• Create unique design solutions for aircraft interior components to satisfy client requirements in the context of conceptual projects, production solutions, mock-up, and validation.
• Integrate designs with aircraft systems, architecture, and support structure. Work effectively with internal teams to create design solutions
|
|
Requirements:
Knowledge and Experience
• Advanced Catia V5 surfacing skills required
• Boeing experience required
• Advanced knowledge of aircraft interior linings, furnishings, and systems integration to effectively support design efforts.
• Advanced knowledge of aircraft cabin configuration requirements that affect interior architecture
• GD&T experience required. (Expert Level)
• Advanced understanding of design process including divergent (brainstorming), convergent (concept-selection), and detail-design phases.
• Advanced understanding design-task time horizon and intent (i.e. future looking ‘conceptual’ versus near-term production-ready) and apply correct balance of divergence/convergence/detailing, requirements, and manufacturing concerns.
• Advanced understanding of engineering principles including Statics and Mechanics of Materials.
• Demonstrated experience successfully working with multi-disciplinary design team.
• Advanced knowledge of project management framework and process.
• Clear understanding of multiple aircraft program requirements.
• Familiarity with design drawings for detail, assembly and installation.
• Intermediate working knowledge of drafting standards and GD&T including ASME standards.
• Advanced knowledge of Class “A” surfacing, including CATIA “ICEM” preferred.
• Specialized experience in dynamic systems and controls; mechanism design; aircraft interior component integration and secondary-support design; aircraft interior seal development; additive manufacturing concepts; manufacturing engineering; weldment design and engineering concepts preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of client data organization tools and effectively work with client data including translation, database search (i.e. Boeing ENOVIA and IVT), and making clear requests to client when needed.
• Familiarity with common aircraft interior composites techniques including hand lay-up and die crushed-core manufacturing.
• Familiar with current Product Data Management techniques (applicable to CAD data)
• Requirements, collection and assessment experience
• Intermediate knowledge of engineering stress analysis including hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA); and engineering thermal analysis; engineering fluid analysis including hand calculations and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) preferred.
• Demonstrated experience presenting to internal and external stakeholders.
• Familiar with current Product Data Management techniques (applicable to CAD data).
• Composite design engineering experience preferred.
EDUCATION AND SKILLS
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• Advanced CATIA V5 and SolidWorks skills support daily part and assembly design activities.
• Skilled in Class-A surfacing process including all phases of engineering coordination required to ensure ID-developed ‘Conceptual Surfaces’ are successfully translated into appropriate tooling including CATIA ICEM surfacing tools, metal-die inspection and SVT development/inspection.
• Specialized skills in dynamic systems and controls; mechanism design; aircraft interior component integration and secondary-support design; aircraft interior seal development; additive manufacturing concepts; manufacturing engineering; weldment design and engineering concepts
Local travel may be required.
