Position Description:
Manufacturing Engineer to develop and implement precision measuring methodologies in support of fabrication for The NASA Space Launch Systems Core Stage production based at the NASA Michould Assembly Facility in New Orleans, LA. Knowledge of precision measurement tools and techniques for the inspection and validation of mechanical test and flight hardware components and assemblies (e.g. conventional gages and measurement tools, CMM, laser tracker, theodolites). Familiarity with associated validation software for comparative analysis. Ability to document and report on results, and address discrepancies. Knowledge of assembly and production processes, manufacturing capabilities
and data needed for defining delivery configurations (e.g., design definition, program directives, engineering drawings, change memos, wiring diagrams and schematics, functional tests, supplier data).

Requirements:
Expert level experience with the application of geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5. Must be able capable of scripting laser inspection sequences within the Spatial Analyzer software including the import of CAD models & definition of the appropriate axis system per GD&T requirements. Knowledge of measurement systems (e.g., photogrammetry, coordinate measuring machines, laser tracker, laser radar, laser alignment, portable measurement tools). Capable of designing measurement systems and tools. Knowledge of manufacturing, methods, fabrication processes and ability to impact performance, cost or schedule. Coordinates and implements new engineering principles, theories, advanced technologies
and concepts. Validates and ensures production readiness of solutions to complex problems. Implements lean principles and technologies. Position requires experience with software applications including: Spatial Analyzer, PRO-E, Catia, Word, Excel, Project, Access, Visio and knowledge in DELMIA software
Bachelor's degree preferred and typically 3 or more years’ related work experience, a Master’s degree and typically 1 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
