Position Description:

Plans and organizes structural analysis work at the program level to assure total compliance with structural integrity and stability requirements. Develops, integrates and documents complex or unique structural requirements to establish the system design. Coordinates with other engineering groups to establish the product's environment. Guides product design and verifies structural integrity by defining requirements for development of analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and other analysis tools to develop the structural environment, characteristics and performance of the product. Works with customers and regulatory agencies to define certification processes that will ensure requirements are met. Reviews and approves certification results. Develops test plans and configurations, supports test execution and analyzes/reports test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Defines and organizes test programs to substantiate for customers and regulatory agencies that requirements are satisfied. Develops analytical processes/tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort. Investigates emerging technologies to develop future product designs to meet projected requirements. Works under consultative direction.

Technical Competencies
• Accident & Fleet Support
Knowledge of flight vehicle dynamics, design requirements, flight simulation, kinematics, flight operations and procedures, in-service problem resolution, repairs effects on continued airworthiness, assessment of Service Bulletins and Airworthiness Directives.
• Aircraft Structure
Knowledge of aircraft structure, materials strengths and properties, design criteria, loading conditions, and processes (e.g. non destructive testing, corrosion prevention)
• Analysis/Design Optimization
Ability to evaluate complex vehicles and systems from a multitude of perspectives. Includes the ability to apply figures of merit and integrated optimization tools. Ability to perform multi-disciplinary trade studies to evaluate configuration alternatives for functional and spatial integration.

Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources.

Ability to analyze problems (troubleshooting, fault isolation, repair, modification, or redesign) of assigned end items to support the design, development and modification of company products using knowledge of engineering disciplines (ME, EE, etc.).
• Computer Aided Design Tools
Knowledge of computer aided design tools and systems (e.g., computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computer aided three dimensional interactive (CATIA), Mentor Graphics, Unigraphics). Able to manipulate data sets, (e.g., compare CATIA to measurement data, create stereo lithography files).

Knowledge of techniques to help identify a customer's organization, capabilities, practices, support resources, preferences, problems, and other constraints in order to provide effective product support and technical issue resolution.

Knowledge of customer's maintenance concepts, processes (e.g., supply, procurement), and support systems.

Knowledge of company design, production, and build processes (e.g., maintenance access solid, dependability cost model, produceability trade offs) to effectively influence product design.

Advanced knowledge of design concepts and techniques (e.g., concurrent engineering, Design for Manufacture/Assembly [DFM/A]).
• Design/Test/Cert Regulations
Knowledge of appropriate customer or governmental regulations relevant to design, test, and certification (e.g., Part 25, MILSPEC).

Knowledge of product maintenance processes, policies, culture, and standard practices (e.g., return to service, normal duties/responsibilities, time constraints, available resources) in order to effectively represent the operator within the Company.

Knowledge of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Condition Based Maintenance (CBM), and Maintenance Review Board (MRB) analysis to effectively develop maintenance programs. This includes knowledge of failure modes, condition monitoring, repair schemes

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
